Moore's Bridge, Sunday, October 20, 2024

Join GAOC on Sunday, October 20th, at Moore's Bridge for classic distance orienteering courses.

The woods are surprisingly dry, even the big marsh is dry and completely passable (hint, hint). The many, many mountain bike trails make the running easy if you can keep track of which trail is which. The climb isn't quite as bad as the statistics make it appear, but unfortunately you do need to get from the Chattahoochee River back to the Finish, the highest point in the park, sooner or later.

Notes

  1. Water will NOT be provided on any course. A camelbak or similar hydration pack is highly recommended. Participants must bring their own compasses, whistle, and water. Additionally, please be respectful of meet and scoring officials by maintaining appropriate social distancing. DO NOT congregate around the scoring tent after you have downloaded.
  2. Pre-paid pre-registration is required. (Registration will open for our volunteer meet directors at 7:00pm on Monday, October 14th, and will open for other volunteer coupon holders at 8:00pm. Registration will open to everyone at 9:00pm.) No paper forms or payments will be accepted on-site.
  3. Participants will be started promptly at the start time they select when pre-registering. To facilitate social distancing, please come to the start no earlier than 3 minutes before your start time, but be sure to be at the start on time.
  4. Runners will have the option to run one or two courses using the same e-stick. If you want to run two courses, you must pre-register for both courses. On the pre-registration form, you will select your start time for your first course. At the event, when you are ready to start you second course, come back to the start to be assigned a start time. You must start your second course before noon.
  5. Beginner instruction is offered at 9:30am. If you want beginner instruction, please pre-register for the beginner instruction course.

Volunteers needed

Event volunteers are always needed and appreciated. Each volunteer is awarded a coupon that may be used for discounted (and early) event registration or items from our merchandise page.

If you are interested in helping out at the start, search and rescue, beginner instruction, or control pickup, please select your volunteer position(s) on the registration page or contact the meet director.

Schedule

Runners must select their start time when pre-registering, and will be started promptly at their selected start time. To facilitate social distancing, please come to the start no earlier than 3 minutes before your start time, but be sure to be at the start on time. There is a 3-hour time limit for all courses. All runners must be off all courses by 2:00 pm.

Directions

From the traffic circle in Whitesburg (the intersection of GA5 and GA16), go north on GA 5 (the opposite direction from McIntosh Reserve) for about a mile and turn right on Black Dirt Road. The park will be down about a mile on the right. There is a sign at the entrance.

The park address is 615 Black Dirt Rd, Whitesburg, GA, accessible via GA Hwy 5. This is a Carroll County Park like McIntosh Reserve, and it is not very well known, so your GPS may not know about this park or address.
